In May 2003, ASCO came to Chicago and the Life Raft Group went to ASCO. Nancy was on booth duty with other Life Raft Group members. ASCO was truly an eye opener. Nancy and her original oncologist, Dr. Richard Knop attended the Karnofsky Lecture where Dr. Brian Druker talked about the new model for rational therapy... imatinib mesylate (Gleevec). It was very encouraging to hear about all the good that had come from the trials after Nancy had so many problems.
